Responsibilities:
- Prepare various meals and snacks including breakfast, lunch, dinner, alternative menus, special event catering foods, and dietary restricted foods following standardized recipes and production sheets.
- Ensure high-quality meals with appealing taste, smell, and presentation; which includes taste tests to maintain quality.
- Portion food appropriately and prepare alternate food items or additional quantities as requested by residents or other customers.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and dining areas; adheres to sanitation and safety protocols.
- Follow infection control and safety procedures, including proper hand washing, food preparation, storage, disposal, and wearing protective clothing and equipment.
- Adhere to safety procedures, federal and state regulations, and standard food handling practices; report hazardous conditions, defective equipment, accidents, or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
- Think and work independently as well as with direction.
- Communicate professionally in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Attend training as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Subject to high humidity, high heat, and cold air in various work areas.
- Subject to exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, taste and/or smell.
- Regularly required to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
- Willingness to work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- Appropriate ergonomic and personal safety equipment provided as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years or equivalent experience in institutional cooking, prep cooking, or kitchen work preferred.
- Must have or be willing to receive a hepatitis A vaccine prior to beginning work.
- Ability to plan, organize, interpret, make independent decisions, and work professionally with others.
